ICS has consultative status with several intergovernmental bodies (IGOs). Ties are particularly close with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) which stretch back to this body’s inception in 1959.
ICS also works with other United Nation’s bodies including the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Economic Commission for Europe (ECE), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the 世界海关组织(WCO) and the 食物 & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) is a 1951 multilateral treaty deposited with the 食物 and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) that aims to secure coordinated, effective action to prevent and to control the introduction and spread of pests of plants and plant products. ICS contributes to the Container Cleanliness Industry Advisory Group (CCIAG), which has been established by the IPPC secretariat.
